Colon Cancer Screening in Kotzebue - Work Trip # 2

Another work trip that is worth mentioning...Kotzebue is located north of the arctic circle on the west coast of Alaska. (Photo from the airplane.) A group of us went out for a colon cancer screening clinic. The clinic went well and everyone was amazingly helpful. Thanks to Dr. Tieva for making it happen!

We had a perfect weather window and a never setting sun....lots of time for fishing.

I was surprised to see wind turbines outside of town.

And surprised to see random cemeteries throughout the town.

Rocky beaches and cold, cold water!

A Trip to New Mexico and an Inspirational Moment

New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment (or entrapment as they say), has been a pretty big part of my life. Maybe I could even say it was in NM that I really started living, dreaming, doing....Maybe I could even say that is where it all started.....Ok, parts of it all started!

The Sandia's.....

Roaming in Nome - Work Trip #1

Recently Kyla, my co-worker, and I were sent to Nome, Alaska to interview teenage girls regarding the new Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.

Nome is northwest of Anchorage, near the Artic Circle. Lots of gold panning and the official end of the Iditarod. Roughly 3,500 people live there.

Our goal was to recruit teenage girls between 11 and 18. Recruiting was somewhat difficult....We tried to find kids at the Kid's Kamp on the beach.....

But actually had better luck at the local dive restaurant that had the best onion rings in the WORLD!

We had a little time to wander and enjoy the 2AM sunset!
